Croatia is often called a country full of life, and Dalmatia is where you feel it most. You get turquoise sea, stone villages, ancient towns, wild mountains and long summer evenings that seem to last forever. In the middle of it all is Tribunj, a small, picturesque fishing village we proudly call the heart of Dalmatia. Summer House Le Vito is your home there.
Why Tribunj Is the Heart of Dalmatia
Tribunj sits on the Adriatic coast between Zadar and Šibenik, in the centre of the Dalmatian coastline. Its old town is built on a tiny islet and joined to the mainland by a stone bridge. Its harbour is full of traditional wooden fishing boats, and its waterfront comes alive on summer evenings.
Tribunj has kept its authentic character. There are no high-rise hotels and no crowds, just local konobas serving fresh fish, olive groves on the surrounding hills, and the slow rhythm of the Mediterranean.
Its location is hard to beat. Within about 45 minutes of scenic coastal driving you can reach:
- Šibenik, about 20 minutes away. It’s the royal town of King Petar Krešimir IV and home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Cathedral of St. James and St. Nicholas Fortress.
- Zadar, about 60 km away, with its Roman Forum, the Sea Organ and famous sunsets.
- Trogir, about 60 km away, a UNESCO-listed medieval town on its own island.
Between Two National Parks: Krka and Kornati
Tribunj lies between two of Croatia’s most beautiful national parks:
- Krka National Park has emerald waterfalls, wooden walkways over the river and hiking trails through the Krka canyon. It’s a perfect day trip from Tribunj.
- Kornati National Park is an archipelago of nearly 150 islands and islets. It’s best explored on a boat trip, with stops for swimming in hidden bays.
Beaches Close to Summer House Le Vito
Summer will mostly be about the sea, and Le Vito is just 400 m from the sea. Nearby beaches include:
- Bristak beach, 700 m away
- Zamalin beach, 1.2 km away
- Sovlje beach, 2 km away
- Vodice beaches, 2 km away
These beaches are connected by a coastal walking path. You can walk or cycle from Tribunj to Vodice along the sea, stopping for a swim or a coffee wherever you like.
Hiking Near Tribunj: From Olive Groves to Croatia’s Highest Peak
Dalmatia is not only about beaches. Spring and autumn are perfect for active holidays, and Tribunj makes a great base for hikers.
St. Nicholas Hill, Tribunj
Start right in the village. A short walk up St. Nicholas Hill takes you past dry-stone walls and olive groves to a small church on the top. From there you can see Tribunj, the islands and the whole Šibenik archipelago. It’s an easy hike, ideal at sunrise or sunset.
The Coastal Path to Vodice
This is an easy, flat walk along the sea. It’s great for families, morning runs and evening strolls.
Krka National Park Trails
Krka has many marked hiking and walking trails along the river, through the canyon and past waterfalls and old watermills. You can easily spend a full day here.
Dinara: Hiking the Roof of Croatia
For real mountain lovers, Dinara is the highlight. At 1,831 m, its peak Sinjal is the highest point in Croatia. The mountain gave its name to the whole Dinaric Alps. Since 2021 the area has been protected as Dinara Nature Park. It’s a wild landscape of karst ridges, high meadows, endemic flowers and wide views across Dalmatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
From Tribunj, the Dinara trailheads near Knin are about an hour and a half’s drive inland. The classic ascent to the summit is a demanding full-day hike, best done in spring or autumn. Bring plenty of water, start early and check the weather. You’ll come back tired and happy, and the sea will be waiting for you the next day.
Few places let you swim in the Adriatic in the morning and stand on Croatia’s highest peak the same week. That’s Tribunj.
